About Lisbon

Lisbon, a city with a view of the New World, is full of magical sights, colors, scents, and sounds. As the capital and most populous city of Portugal, it is situated on the westernmost part of the Iberian Peninsula, along the coast of the Atlantic Ocean. Whichever part of the city you venture into, you will encounter a rich cultural heritage and diverse architecture that bears witness to the history of this city.

The city on the Tagus River is like an open-air art studio. Wherever you turn, you’ll see facades adorned with beautiful mosaic tiles of various colors, murals, and paintings. Its narrow and charming streets hide incredible views of the lower parts of the city, through which old trams pass – a special attraction that often leads to comparisons of Lisbon with San Francisco.

Many Portuguese explorers (such as Vasco da Gama, Bartolomeu Dias, Ferdinand Magellan, and Pedro Alvares) set off from here on their voyages and made significant strides (or rather, “strokes”) for the world and humanity.

Lisbon is full of attractions that should not be missed: the Belém Tower, the Jerónimos Monastery, the Monument to the Discoveries, and numerous pastry shops offering various types of pastéis de Belém, pastries made of puff pastry filled with delicious vanilla cream. For all lovers of a good nightlife, the Bairro Alto district is known as the heart of the city’s nightlife. It’s a place to unwind to the sounds of fado music and enjoy a glass of ginjinha (a type of delicious sour cherry liqueur), which locals believe is a remedy for the soul.

In a city from which some set out to explore the world, you can explore yourself. Let the view from Cabo da Roca convince you that every end represents the beginning of something new and exciting. A new chapter that tells its own story.

EDP Lisboa Marathon

Participants in this race will have the opportunity to enjoy one of the most beautiful courses in the world, which stretches along the coast and river, passing numerous historical landmarks.

The marathon starts in the town of Cascais, approximately 40 minutes drive from Lisbon. The route follows the coastal road and passes through the towns of Carcavelos, Estoril, and Oeiras, offering impressive views of the sea, as well as the Belém Tower and the Jerónimos Monastery. It concludes at the magnificent Praça do Comércio, a square with a triumphal arch.

To reach the starting point, participants can take a train that operates every 20 minutes from the center of Lisbon, departing from Cais do Sodré station, located next to the metro station of the same name. The race has a time limit of 6 hours, and the organizers promise music along the course, especially at the finish line, and refreshment stations every 5 km.

The half marathon and fun run start on the Vasco da Gama Bridge. It is the longest bridge in Europe and the ninth longest in the world, making it a special experience to run across it alongside other participants. Special bus lines organized by the city (free of charge) depart from Avenida D. João II, between the Oriente train and metro station and the Vasco da Gama shopping center, from 7:30 to 9 a.m. The Expo Center is nearby, where we will go together to collect the race packets, so that location will be familiar to everyone.

The half marathon course begins on the bridge, passes through the industrial zone, and then follows the coastline all the way to Praça do Comércio, where it merges with the marathon course. The fun run, which is 8.5 km long, finishes at Parque das Nações. The time limit for both races is 3 hours.

Just 150 meters away, there is also a metro station, making all parts of the city easily and quickly accessible. Additionally, many famous city landmarks such as Rossio Square, Praça do Comercio Square, St. George’s Castle, and many others are within a short distance of 3 km.

It is located next to Parkue da Fonte Luminosa, 30 meters from the Alameda metro station, from where you can quickly reach all parts of the city, and all famous landmarks will be easily accessible. Day 4: The race

Departure from the hotel to the starting zone, dropping off belongings, and light warm-up before the race.
08:00 – Marathon start
10:30 – Half marathon and 8.5 km race start

The rest of the day is free to enjoy the city and celebrate the successful completion of the race. In the evening, there will be a collective celebration with the possibility of organizing a cruise on the Tagus River.

Day 5: Lisbon

Free day to enjoy Lisbon and your personal achievement.
As on the second and third day, if the group desires, it is possible to organize a collective sightseeing tour and excursions. However, a special rule applies for this day – those who do not bring their medal will buy drinks for the whole group!

Day 6: Lisbon – Belgrade
